The application under Section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989 has been submitted to
the Secretary of State for Trade & Industry by Devon Wind Power Power for the construction of a wind farm at Fullabrook, North Devon.
A Public Inquiry
into the proposals is expected to be held in Spring 2006.
In summary, the proposed development comprises:
-
The installation of 22 wind turbines (each turbine being 65m high to the hub, 110m
to the tip of the blade set which has a swept diameter of 90m), including excavation
for turbine bases;
-
The installation of 1 monitoring mast with a height of 65m;
-
The construction of a 33 kV/132 kV electrical sub station (approximate overall size
58x35m and associated switch gear);
-
Trenching and cable installation for supply and distribution of generated electricity;
-
The construction of onsite access tracks crossing the site to facilitate the wind
farm development;
-
The construction of a temporary site compound with associated services for the duration
of the construction phase;
-
The installation of one onsite concrete batching plant to facilitate the turbine base
construction; and
-
The reinstatement of areas affecting by the construction of temporary access tracks,
contractors' compound and concrete batching plant.
It is anticipated that the installed capacity of the wind farm will be 66 megawatts,
based on 22 turbines each with a rated output of 3 megawatts. Electricity generated
from the wind farm will be transmitted via underground lines to the national grid.
This aspect of the development will be undertaken by Western Power Distribution in
conjunction with Devon Wind Power.
