ESB Promoting Innovation through STEM Initiatives
ESB helps to develop future talent by supporting the development of skills in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). We achieve this through partnerships with Web Summit (ESB Spark of Genius), Science Gallery Dublin, Engineers Ireland and City Spectacular.
ESB Spark of Genius
The ESB Spark of Genius Award is presented annually to the most promising and high-potential Irish technology start-up. Start-ups are invited to apply, with shortlisted companies invited to pitch to a panel of judges with an opportunity to appear at Web Summit (Ireland).
The overall winner receives a €25,000 prize fund. Past winners of the ESB Spark of Genius Award include Datahug, Love & Robots, Viddyad and SmartThings, the home automation company that was acquired by Samsung for a reported $200m.
The award was won in 2015 by Bizimply, a shift management solutions provider for the service industry.
ESB and Science Gallery Dublin
We provide multi-annual funding to Dublin Science Gallery, an organisation which promotes Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) and Arts to 15-25 year olds. Through this partnership, we work with Science Gallery’s MAKESHOP to bring basic electronics workshops to young people across Ireland using our network of ESB volunteers.
ESB and TechSpace
Through ESB’s Energy for Generations fund, we are working with TechSpace to develop a national programme to promote science, technology, engineering and maths to young people across Ireland. TechSpace works through a network of youth organisations, projects and schools to enable participants to creatively express themselves using technology.
