To date, more than 500,000 smart meters have been installed across the country. The programme began in counties Laois, Kildare and Cork (Bandon) in Autumn 2019 and extended to parts of Dublin, Wicklow, Louth and Meath in 2020.
In 2021, the programme is now working in counties Dublin, Cork, Laois, Louth, Kildare, Meath,
Wicklow, Clare, Sligo, Leitrim, Limerick, Roscommon, Monaghan, Kilkenny and
Carlow. ESB Networks plans to extend the roll-out to areas in additional parts
of Dublin, and counties Wexford, Cavan, Donegal and Mayo.
We aim to replace all 2.4 million meters by the end of 2024.
ESB Networks will give all customers notice when they are rolling out the meters in their respective regions.
In addition, all new general domestic 24-hour connections and meter replacements for homes and businesses will receive a smart meter.
